great shot! I took a look at your other concert stuff its great, I tend to shoot for the cleaner crisp images , but the movment in your style is very kewl.good job.

Nice shot. Good timing and the lighting is just right. Not over exposed with flash.

 

Incidentally, I looked at some of your other concert photos and would love to know some of your techniques - shutter speeds, flash or no flash etc.?

Great moment, great expression, great composition. From your other photo's I take it you know how to make a concert photo, and that you were in a situation where it was impossible to work without flash.

James - Thank you very much. I usually shoot with flash, though I try to depend on it as little as possible. I try to suck out all the ambient light I can and use flash to fill in the foreground, though I do occasionaly rely on the flash if I want to totally freeze motion. This shot was around 1/60th at I think 2.8 and with flash obviously. My others with more light trails are usually shot with a shutter speed around 1/2 (with flash). The results can be very exciting, experimenting is very fun.

Arjen - Much appreciation for your comments! I was kind of stuck with flash on this shot because I only had my digital camera. I can sometimes get away without flash with my slr and 50mm 1.8, depending on the concert venue lighting. I find I usually get more appealing images with slow-sync flash, in my opinion though. :)
