In some ways this is different from the quite much of the work you're sharing here - which is great (and I envy a bit - currently, I'm feeling I'm following too much my trodden paths...). It is lively and "street"-like - could be from a documentary about Japan. By including the streetscape to the left you took a risk, which payed off very well, because it is balanced nicely by the flowers (towards which the family is moving).

Jack, Wolfgang has hit the nail on the head by dealing with the concept of risk. To me, it is a necessary ingredient when one takes photographs like this. (It also may be crucial in most other photographic genres.) It also is characteristic of most of your extensive body of work. A viewer unfamiliar with your style wouldn't recognize the role that bicycles - and often their riders - play. Viewers like Wolfgang, Daniel, myself, et. al., welcome these elements as contributing to your success in displaying ordinary scenes which don't necessarily involve a human presence overtly, Sometimes that presence is implied, but it's there nevertheless. What I find most engaging in this one is how it appears that the father appears to about to leave the starting point of the family's journey with both of their children. while the mother - who appears behind the father and children, will travel on her own bicycle with them Perhaps that's a cultural practice in Japan. Yet another favorite.

Hi Jack,

I give up - another detailed comment gone because I didn't type it fast enough. In short, the family's reaction to your taking their photo is telling something about the difference between western European an Asian cultures; these people are looking somewhat defensive while lots of people in Europe and the USA would welcome the opportunity to show off their happy family life like they do on social media. A sign of the times. By the way, the smallest child reminds me of Shin-Chan. Kind regards, Vincent
