celasun 0 Posted May 4, 2019 This seems to be related to your recent series of "invasion of the skies". Similar theme, on the ground. There is not much room for Eggleston's bicycle anymore... Still so charming, so childishly beautiful... perhaps only for children of an earlier age. Link to comment
wolfgangarnold 142 Posted May 4, 2019 Admittedly, I also couldn't avoid thinking of Eggleston (https://www.moma.org/collection/works/51630) - but let's put him aside (in my humble opinion he is a bit overrated...). What works really great for me here is the contrast of the colorful toy vs strict (and very carefully composed) geometry of surroundings - a childhood that fails escaping the confines of the city. mark_q 0 Posted May 5, 2019 I wrote a long comment which was not published. It took a while to remember that similar happened years ago. I had written double quotes in my text and all sudden got prompt that I used illegal code... Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 5, 2019 Bulent, Wolfgang, Franz, Markku - Quite a quartet of international photographers and all of whom I consider masters of the craft. I'm much indebted to you for your attention to this picture. I saw this tricycle sitting lonely in the middle of a deserted parking lot and I have to admit thoughts of Eggleston floated into my head. But my friend, Yukihiro (you can see a picture of his living room in a recent upload) was focused on finding a place to eat and so we sailed past. As luck would have it, the restaurant was very near and so I took the opportunity to hike back and get my shot. It wasn't quite the Eggleston tricycle I had imagined but it had its own multi-colored plastic charm. God only knows where the young owner had gone off to, abandoning his vehicle. It was Golden Week in Japan, a long holiday period when everyone seems to be out at once but there was no one around, just me and the tricycle. One of life's delicious little mysteries. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for reading my brief story. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 6, 2019 Markku - I'm sorry the software refused to publish your comment. It has happened to me a couple of times in the past and I know how frustrating it is and for me, too, since it has denied me the opportunity to read your always welcome remarks. I hope you will try again; I'm interested in what you have to say. Regards, Jack Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted May 6, 2019 Jack, I am back. I just wrote about the book William Eggleston's Guide by MOMA 1976 which I purchased sometimes early 80s. This book with tricycle on it's cover came to my mind as sorta hidden link as your photos tend to have several layers to be discovered by viewer and this colorful cutie and it's rock solid composition made me wonder... Nice to hear you too had experienced similar posting problems. Link to comment
