This butterfly is not rare in most parts of Europe and not very conspicuous with folded wings, but when sunlight hits the blue upper parts of this insect, it's a treat for the eyes. This is not the most conventional way of photographing butterflies, but it shows what I like so much in the appearance of this insect. I realize the depth of field is very shallow, but spontaneous photos of insects are always somewhat of a compromise. As always, your comments are very welcome.

Hi Giangiorgio,

Thanks for your friendly comment! I think the butterfly's blue and the flower's purple do not exactly form a nice color combination, but it happened to be on this lavender, a flower favored by butterflies. Kind regards, Vincent

Really very beautiful butterfly and you've captured it well also Vincent. The colors and details within the wings is excellent and matched with the dreamy bokeh. Butterflies are a favorite subject of mine and I shoot them whenever I can. I have a few in my portfolio, kind of wish this one was in my collection. Beautiful image Vincent.............................Best Regards, Holger

Hi Holger,

thank you very much for your great compliment! I'm glad you like tis photo of the common blue butterfly, which is not rare at all where I photographed it (Southern France). I have looked at your butterfly gallery too and you have some great looking images there, one of which I had to comment on right away. Kind regards, Vincent

Lovely colors and details of this beautiful butterfly, Vincent. Fantastic job of getting the eye and wings in focus, they really stand out from the rest of the image. I like the POV. Best regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,

thanks for your friendly comments! I must admit I struggled a bit here; the DoF is very shallow in this kind of photo. I wanted to get a shot that showed both sides of the wings of this butterfly, and I tried several times before I got his one that I think is okay. Kind regards, Vincent
