Too Much Work

The photo was the easy part

i don"t care for the harsh sidelighting (doesn't affect rating - just my personal taste), however it may add to the lack of scale which I do enjoy in this photo.

David is good enough to say his dislike of the sidelighting is his taste. Well my taste is in the other direction. The long shadows from the woodshavings, are part of the pixture and the texture of the wood just wouldn't be the same. The subject matter is simple, almost banal, but it is the light which makes the picture.

Thanks James and David for the comments. The lighting was the only way to capture the texture of the planed surface. And yes it is a bit harsh...but then it was a bare 200w incandescent bulb just laying on the table to the left.
