Great atmosphere! Heart of Darkness? Didn't the novel by Joseph Conrad take place up the Congo River? And the Francis Ford Coppola movie "Apocalypse Now" was an adaptation of that story but it was in stead placed up the Mekong River during the Vietnam war? ...I can still hear Marlon Brando as the mad Colonel Kurtz muttering to Martin Sheen, "...no you are neither, you are just an errand-boy sent by grocery clerks to collect the bill..." intense stuff and somewhat the same mood one can get from your photo. Well done!

Phillip, Yes Joseph Conrad. And Brando in the film "Apocalypse Now" in the half dark, muttering: "The horror. The horror." Thanks for the comment! The film "Lord Jim" with Peter O'Toole was also loosely based on J Conrad's book. Many thanks!

Aha!, and "Lord Jim" apparently took place in the Malay Archipelago. That might explain your Asian flavored setting together with the Heart of Darkness theme without it hinting to Apocalypse Now and Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos or where it was that Colonel Kurtz had made his weird camp.

Right. And 'Apocalypse now" was supposed to take place in be both VN and Cambodia where his weird 'off the reservation' outpost was. Although it was all filmed in the Philippines. Loved that movies!

Thanks for the insights and happy travel to Kenya and Tanzania. Wanna come next year and film the Pyramids in Egypt, maybe?

Title borrowed from Joseph Conrad's novel, but actually this is from the live outdoor spectacular produced literally on China's Li River by the great film director Zhang Yimou also acclaimed as the producer of the awesome opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.

Excellent composition, climate, sharpened and highlighted waves in contrast to black and blurred sky and in middle of almost mystical characters on boats with lanterns, strong ........

FRom the live show 'Impression Liu Sanjie' was choreographed by Zhang Yimou, one of the most notable Chinese film directors who was also responsible for the mind-boggling performances at the '08 Beijing Olympics. It takes place on the Li River in total darkness.
