At first, I wasn't sure about the large areas of jet black behind the subject. After viewing the image for a while, I changed my mind. In my opinion, they provide a rather interesting contrast with the midtones. Finally, based on the image's title, I find a bit of humor in that the subject seems to be looking for coworkers or subordinates to direct. Fascinating, Holger. - - My best, michael

My friends I'm very grateful for the nice comments. Michael you're especially kind in how you gently pointed out the images big flaw, lack of detail in those blacked out areas but as you say the image grows on you and there are some good points as well, mainly the shipyard director. I like the result of this effect on this image Holger. I have never been very good at it but here you've managed to make it artistic AND believable. Well done ! My Dear Gail, It is always a great pleasure to hear from you, on any image old or new. This image has a somewhat funny history to it, in that I didn't like the result out of the camera but I thought it had potential to be worked with. I'm not very good with PS Elements, that's what I use, but I tried some of the filters to see what would be possible and I found one I thought wasn't to bad, and that's how this came about.
