I was meditating in front of this John Giorno thought when I saw this elderly woman going to struggle on the stairs, I just

had the time to shoot.

How did this image avoid the usual scrutiny of POW? It seems to have become visible after the week it was to be POW. Is it possible that it was made private during that week and then made public after the POW period? I don't recall seeing it and it would be rare that no one would comment on it. Thoughts?

As has been happening frequently, it was put in the wrong position on the POTW thumbnail page, so people probably missed it and thought there was no photo.

I missed it too. As to the picture: the slogan is very strong, but how it relates to the women, is not at all clear. Is she in dire need of medical attention, or will she need it when she has climbed the stairs? The absence of a connection with the rest of the picture, seems a serious flaw to me.

I'D NOT LIKE TO PHILOSOPHISE ABOUT THE FLYING OF TIME, OR EVEN, TO PUBLISH THE HEALTH CHECK OF THIS.LADY I HAD NOT THE PLEASURE TO KNOW.

HOWEVER I THINK I HAVE BEEN QUITE CLEAR TELLING FEW WORDS ABOUT THIS PICTURE IN THE CAPTION. TO ME THE POINT IS THAT LIVING DOESN'T MAKE US FEEL ANY YOUNGER, OLD-AGE IS . THE FINAL END OF LIFE, AND IT'S WHY LIFE IS A KILLER.

LIVING DOESN'T MAKE US FEEL ANY YOUNGER. Living many years has, in fact, made me feel a lot younger. Bob Dylan, too . . . "ah but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now." I think old age is often misunderstood and misrepresented.

To Fred G.

Hi Fred!

When I write about the old-âge it's only to underline the meaning of this fortuitous encounter betwwen this little old lady and that poster. It was the opprtunity to me to give one of the representations of the old âge. But, I totally agree with you about the " ultimate youth"...I am 77 years old and In feel younger and younger.

Auriel, thanks for your response. I am reading the scene very differently. The woman is about to climb the steps. In that sense, she's actually DEFYING the message of the poster. Where you seem to want to see the poster and the woman as somehow connected or in synch with each other, together providing a message about living not making us feel younger, I am seeing the woman as ignoring the poster and subverting its stupid message.

I've said for years that Life is killing us and here it is in larger than life (pun intended) black and white! Nice capture too.

Nice juxtapose,,to Fred G,.. touche.. I feel the same way! the best kept secret is getting older. I don't take myself so seriously anymore and the mundane simplicities of life like my morning coffee are part of life'S wonders.
