charo 3 Posted September 9, 2017 The black and white is perfect here. Beautiful composition.... Kind Regards, Rosario. Link to comment
John Stewart1 1 Posted September 19, 2017 Very nice image and composition. I am just thinking that the shadowy figure would not be so dark given that his surroundings are much lighter in tone. He is also out of focus, maybe from a software filter? Link to comment
Julie H 312 Posted September 19, 2017 Two minor things that I like are: the echo of the umbrella's form by the downward-bow form of the snow-weighted evergreen trees in the background; and the strong black spiky-fingered anchoring along the left side. But what I like best and what I think is most distinctive about this somewhat cliché subject is how the black upright assertive figure of the man "pins" the sensuous, strongly bowed, serpentine energy of the road. By vertically crossing its bow, the figure controls the energy of the curve, holding it, tense. That pinning energises what otherwise would have been pretty bland. Good picture. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted September 19, 2017 John's comments provided a starting point for me. The dark appearance of the traveller is entirely congruent with the fact that the only highlights in the image are those of the snow. To me, his appearing out of focus is entirely consistent with his upper body position and his use of a cane; this journey is a difficult one, perhaps emotionally. I view the items which John viewed as weaknesses as strong points. Armando created a thoughtful photograph that attracts our attention and our thoughts. Link to comment
Robin Smith 812 Posted September 19, 2017 A strong image, although I wish the walker was walking towards us rather than away. The mist is nice and the lack of shadow detail is OK with me: adds to a sense of mystery. The image is rather soft: I have not decided if this is completely unimportant: perhaps I wish the figure was a little sharper, but this may just be me being too conventional. Good pictures taken in wintry conditions are rather rare, so on balance I like this one. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 20, 2017 I like the composition, cliche but still solid . I don't like the processing, it feels heavy handed and draws too much attention to itself. The fuzziness wether artificial ( gaussian blur level with low opacity) or part of the original image comes across as an afterthought, an unsuccessful play at adding atmosphere where none was needed. Zbigniew Tyburczy - ZT 6 Posted September 21, 2017 The PP looks slightly 'weird-not natural'- but this could be (obviously) improved, The whole image seems to lean towards the left - very heavy dark left side, Also position of the person which appears to be 'out of plumb' -leaning towards the left doesn't help to compensate that, Link to comment
Dale M 1 Posted September 21, 2017 I agree with everything that Julie H said. This is not a photograph to be judged on technicality, but pure sentimentality: every winter that comes around reminds us that we have gone one step further along in life. Perfect photo in my opinion. Link to comment
