Julie H 312 Posted July 25, 2017 I'm thinking the creature in the lower left foreground with the lamp that's not on, the eyes that can't see and the nose that is growing like Pinoccio's is a selfie of one of the judge's who chose this picture for PoW. Wearing a wig so he thinks we won't recognize him. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted July 25, 2017 One of the weakest photos from an otherwise strong portfolio. Well done, once again, elves. Link to comment
GerrySiegel 868 Posted July 25, 2017 Any explanation or crib sheet would help. Why do I bother about a seven element lens with super coating and a fast Venus engine. I use to have a great Argus C-3 and I gave it away. Rats! Link to comment
Robin Smith 812 Posted July 28, 2017 Picture's intriguing, but it needs a title. Anything... Link to comment
Dale M 1 Posted July 29, 2017 This is a photograph which does incite one to stop and think, and then ultimately conclude that there is too much wrong. On the whole, the people are the ones who should be in clear, sharp focus, and the dummy an eerie, dim, shady, blurred impression on the image which adds intrigue. As it is, it is rather a mess of two separate images mashed together. Link to comment
wieslawmamon 0 Posted July 31, 2017 Thank you elves for choosing this shot for PoW. Whatever the reason for your decision is, it's an honor for me and I'm glad to find one of my shots here. Albo thank you Julie, Gordon, Michael, Gerry, Robin and Dale for your feedback, really food for thought especially from those of you who made an effort to be at least a bit constructive in your comments. As for the shot, it was taken in the Park of Forest Surprises in Ustroń, Poland. One of its attractions is Fairytale Alley, where you can see moving exhibitions of popular fables. This shot presents one of the 'theatres' with the witch, the brush, the lamp and the other props seen through the pane, on which you can also notice the reflexions of the people walking through the park. It's a mixture of just two worlds and personally I enjoy the way or, if you prefer, the mess reality and fantasy mix together here. Dale, it was my conscious decision to set focus on the witch (I always use single point and then recompose). It was the most interestingly looking and possibly the most surprising component in the story so I assumed it might be fun to study as many of her details as possible and make it easier to discover this dark character;–) However, your suggestion to focus on the people (in fact a brother and a sister) would be a successful alternative, the photo also in my view could gain more mystery indeed. Comparing the two options doesn't seem a matter of right or wrong, it's rather two different approaches to the same scene. Best regards to you all. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted July 31, 2017 Wieslaw, thanks for the rather comprehensive response to all the comments posted., especially your statement that "It's a mixture of just two worlds . . . " As a result, I've totally changed my mind about this image. The two human subjects walking could be a startle reaction to one of the "forest surprises." The motion blur supports this impression, in my opinion. Link to comment
