Hi Lynne: One more of your very personal, exquisite, compelling, powerful portraits or snapshots. Impressive. A veritable conversation between you, behind the camera, and your subject. If you have time, look for Sebastian Salgao "Salt of the Earth". It is a very strong movie...how can the photographer have the "cold blood, steadiness....etc" to take the shot....where a fathomless abyss lies between the two of you, who are actually..... a few feet apart. Terrific work!

Wow, Daniel, I am humbled to be mentioned in the same thought as Delgado. I am always challenged to find a compelling portrait when "out in life". I look for the "soul" of a person when searching a shoot. People are SO interesting and my very favorite thing to shoot.

Lynne, this image certainly deserved the POTD; congratulations! To me, the technical details - although meritorious - pale in comparison to the emotional value if the image. This person appears happy and/or proud to display several dollars he won playing his neighborhood's equivalent of the old numbers racket. Alternatively, his state of mind may be explained by his having a few dollars left after buying food for his family and himself. A most excellent street portrait . . .

You have an impressive collection of top-quality portraits, difficult to choose one to comment upon, so please take this few words of praise and apply them equally to the rest. I find a very interesting combination of extra-sharpness and some grain, especially in this BW superb image. I am passionate for "grain", as it reminds me of my "real" dark room and the fact that one had to shoot a whole roll of high speed film and then adjust the development time and shaking process to obtain (luckily) the intended result. I used to use much of that high speed film, (1,600 ASA was the most one could commercially get, and push it a step or two....). I digress....Your photograph resonates with my style, but aside from that, it is just magnificent.

Thank you Daniel for your wonderful comments. Sometimes I worry that I am making the image too grungy, but then I get a comment like yours and it makes me feel more secure in my processing.
