I really like this, Jack...it shows the back of the signs which make me think what the sign are. Well done my friend. Regards, Lawrence.

I just found this and love it. The pov and and looking at the back of the signs sends a message which can probably be taken in more than one way. Sometimes I like to ignore the where and what of signs and go my own way. A good image Jack.

I'm enjoying playing with the juxtaposition of the image and the title--it works in so many ways. The design of utility poles, the designs made by the utility poles, the utility of poles for design in a photo showing utility poles, the utility of the design of the photo for showing the design of utility poles...could go on for quite awhile if I weren't drawn back to just sit an enjoy the design of the photo. Nice!

To me, this image screams "Convergences!" Primarily, I noticed the utility poles converging toward the top. But there are many others, perhaps more properly designated "intersections."

Wonder how this would look in B&W . . .

Jack, This has a Sci-Fi-Fi quality to it that I cannot quite explain. I am lost on Photo.net at the moment; the transformation leads me to believe I have walked into The Twilight Zone. (I would very much like to return to ordinary reality.)

Dan, Thanks for your comment on this picture. I know what you mean by Alice in Wonderland - up is down and black is white. I am the eggman. They are the eggmen. I am the walrus. Goo goo g'joob.

There is some bitter sweetness about this image. We're locked out, we see the back-end of the world, where the screws, bolts and nuts that are usually so careful hidden to keep up appearances are in plain view, where things are just utilitarian because they need to do their job, without any aesthetic consideration. In this jungle, to find an aesthetic, is a pretty remarkable thing, Jack. Yet, the work of the outside, and it leaves us as viewers a sort of outsider. The good life is at the other end.

Jack, I have taken pictures of signs, but it would never have occurred to me to see the beauty in the backs of signs. Bravo!

Hi Jack -- I only recently (8/23/17) came back to PN to see if I could figure out how to upload, but more importantly, to find some of my favorite photographer friends. I got a notice that you commented. And, like you, I find this site tricky to navigate since the changeover. I miss the old days of commenting and exchange of ideas -- this new setup does not lend itself well to that anymore, unfortunately. I hope you are well. I actually spend most of my time these days on Instagram (there are a number of very good photographers on there, you just have to find them amongst all the junk) where I am stevegubinphoto. I can't even figure out anymore how to email you on this site. I will check my old emails, maybe we exchanged emails at some point. I hope you are doing well and it would be great to land at the same spot sometime and continue our dialogue and enjoying your view of the world. I am also on Facebook, though I don't put up photos there as much as I used to. Hope you are well and hope to hear from you somehow!

Hi Jack! This is a great photo. You are an inspiration to me.

Thanks for your mail. Try as I might I could not find the right channel to answer you. So let me do so here. It was truly good to hear from you again. Yes, photo.net has become quite messy. I know whoever made this mess meant well but it is still a mess. A perfect example of "progress" that has made something that was easy difficult to impossible to deal with. Would very much like to meet you some day soon. I'll be retiring in March and will have more time than now. I'll give a call tonight.

Best,

Alex
