Solitarily confined, riveted blue walls under harsh cold fluorescent lighting. The only sign of warmth is the skin on the person's head, cleanly shaved as if to rob off any personal trait. The deliberately tilted angle is designed to play game with one's sense of balance, and prolonged staring may trigger nausea. Equally helpless is the man's pose, as if his life has no beginning, no ending, only the present.

Seems to e imprisoned, maybe emotionally or physically. It makes me think of institutionalization and mental health. Sitting and waiting for an answer to some deep psychological problem. It reminds me of when I trained in a psychiatric facility. Its just missing the inevitable cigarette in his hand.

Blue, blue, blue, pink. The ear. The ear owns the picture. Pink, small, soft, fleshy, a little bit obscene, his mind is RIGHT there, listening. He has us on radar-lock. I love how the eye is almost, almost showing, but not. This is about listening. Waiting. Tension. This picture is wired. *************** After that, I find the line of his head, from the left at the back of his neck, almost a true curve, that flattens very subtly over the top and to the forehead, then does a delicate swoop to suggest the eye that does not see — to be very beautiful. I also like the line of the sweater, over his shoulders. ************ What holds the picture back is textures that aren't handled well: the sweater and the walls. And, I think the tilt is overdone. While the ear and the lines are subtle and fine; the tilt is coarse and obvious.

the hair suggests aggression whereas the hunched shoulders wrapped in a shawl suggest otherwise. i like it

This photo feels deliberate and invested in. The composition and skew both show confidence. There's a genuineness in that. It seems like there was not a lot of hesitation back and forth about how much or how little. It all feels kind of innately committed to. Interestingly, there's a bold physicality which carries with it a sense of transcendence.

Oups... Not been here for a long time. Didn't event noticed the award, shame on me.

Anyway, thx to all these interesting comments.

They are well thoughts and smart.

As you may see on my portfolios, I am an "instinct" photographer, working mainly with a 35mm or equivalent in m4/3.

One body, one lens, that's the real philosophy behind it.

Cheers
