Looks like feeding is now complete and he is still alive. The small animal on the shelf looks like a predator poised for a kill. That adds some tension to the image.

The high iso and slow shutter gives this the feel of a 1960's black and white film image.  Could be a part of a series in a documentary article.

This harks back to another time in photography; if you had told me that Eve Arnold or Eugene Smith had done this I would have believed it without hesitation. Love the quiet tones and the sense of mystery. This is the real thing. How come you're not with Magnum?

Thanks for coming with me on my visit to the zoo. I feel like I live in a sideshow of the weird, the bizarre, the comic. I guess that's what I look for because that's what I seem to find. I'm just not serious enough for serious photography. I appreciate really good photography and love to look at their work but I just can't bother with all the erudite theorizing, philosophizing and the endless search for the meaning of photography I'd rather do card tricks in the back alley behind the museum than be deconstructed, assigned a grade and slipped into one. drawer or another.

I agree with Dan, you should be with Magnum.  This one is full of tension and mystery.  The graininess adds to the suspens and drama. The composition is superb... real action in progress!

Great work Jack!
