This was shot hand-held with a Panasonic FZ1000. The lens was abuilt-in Leica design at an effective focal length of 400mm.

Thanks, Mike.  The noise reduction in the JPEGs bothers me a bit, but otherwise I was quite impressed with this little camera.  I will try a raw file tomorrow.

Thank you, Pierre.  Yes, the bright moon makes shutter speed a non-issue.  The relatively small sensor on this camera has its obvious limits in terms of resolution, but the built-in zoom has an effective focal range of 25 to 400mm.  It is a very light and inexpensive way to shoot at 400mm.

Shot at full moon?  Well, in the eastern time zone, the full moon did occur on October 16, but the actual moment of full moon had been around 1 a.m. EDT, not long after midnight.  By the time I shot this later in the evening, it was more than nineteen hours past full moon--closer to being the day after full moon.

So. . . I consider this effectively to have been shot on the first day after full moon.  One can see that by the appearance of craters far beyond what one could be expected to see at exactly full moon, when there are actually no real shadows visible at all.
