This is a 3 speedlight self portrait. I was practicing with the 10x20

raprid box (rim) and the rapid box mini (hair), with the 60 in"

softlighter ii for the main light. I don't know if I would call it

"low key" but I am curious about the lighting in general. I am

brighter on the left of the image than I wanted, but I thought I'd get

some opinions on this lighting in general. Thanks for you input.

Regards.

Jeff

You might tone down the light on top of your head. My eye is a bit more drawn there than to the light on your face. Yes, I might like either a little more even lighting left to right or a little more contrast left to right (if you wanted more drama). What might also be interesting, depending on what type of portrait you're after, would be stronger lighting on your hands and guitar with your face in an expressive shadow.

The exposure seems good, the main light on your left and the subdued kicker light on your right work nicely, and the hair light is not blown out.  Good shirt choice--it lets the main elements shine and tell a story.  I would be hard-pressed to find anything I would change about your image.  Nice job.
