alfbailey 4 Posted October 3, 2016 I can see why this is so appealing to you. The very nature of the piece being sculpted from the same material but with totally different characters and features makes it most engaging, but the deep set sightless eyes are what really intrigues me! Great find, shame about the light, but better than none at all! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
chris_panagiotidis 0 Posted October 3, 2016 Grateful thanks for the thoughtful comment, Alf. What it is really intriguing about this complex is that the block house it belongs , situated in the nicest street of Athens, ( the pedestrian street in the south side of Acropolis , with magnificent neo-classic buildings), has visual contact with the Parthenon , behind of which Caryatides cast their gaze to the "chorus" direction Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted October 12, 2016 With a bit of imagination at hand, I suspect that the sculpture is symbolic of the Sirens. Fortunately I cannot hear them. In my opinion, the darker range of the grayscale is most suitable for this image. It is quite well composed, with interesting textural variety. I find the hint of shadows most effective.
