Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 19, 2016 Large view preferred. I was interested in the vertical lines here and chose to keep the contrast on the medium to low side. Too bad that the tree on the right got out of focus; unawares, it was closer to me than the tree on the left and must not have been in the hyperfocal range. I considered cropping it out, but decided against that. What's your view of this image? Thanks for your comment. Larry Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted August 19, 2016 Personally I'd be inclined to leave the RH tree as it is too! Even though it appears out of focus, its role as a part of the image frame and connecting the horizontal, albeit slightly diagonal tree on the floor should not be understated. The rest of the image has a light airy feel with superb clarity and sharpness. I like it very much! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted August 20, 2016 I particularly like the naturalness of this scene and you've captured excellent depth, something not always easy to do in a forest... Mike Link to comment
Leslie Reid 5,270 Posted August 20, 2016 I like the feel of this photo a lot—it’s so peaceful and inviting. I particularly like how the downed log leads us to the sapling, whose foliage messes beautifully with the strong dark verticals of the trunks. I also agree that the tree on the right is important. You may be able to make the soft focus less noticeable by darkening the trunk slightly and increasing its clarity (I’d be using an adjustment brush in Lightroom); as it is, it attracts my eye a bit because it is light relative to the other trunks. If you could make it more similar in tone it might stand out less, but you’d need to experiment to see. I’m curious about the tones in the other trunks—the bases seem a lot lighter than the upper trunks. If the darker tones persisted to the bases, it would allow the trunks to stand out more strongly against the forest floor and so would carry the dark-against-light theme further into the image. All that said, the bottom line is that it’s a lovely image. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted August 20, 2016 Hi Larry, I didn't even notice the tree on the right except as framing element. What I like about this is the foliage, the leaves in particular but the ground cover as well make this very light and airy. To me the trees are the contrast to that and have an important role also. A well seen and interesting image that needs to be looked at for a bit to appreciate, and I did.Best Always, Holger Link to comment
JM-Kuva 12 Posted September 20, 2016 I like the image! Photographing forest from inside is difficult to do well.. B&W interpretation focuses the viewers attention to the forms and lines of the forest. To add sense of depth one can also try to use a shallow DOF and leave the background out of focus.
