My granddaughter was performing ballet in an annual dance so it afforded me an opportunity to fool around photographically. For the 'normal' shots I boosted the ISO to 8000 and will look and see if any are worth sharing here. No flash was allowed.

Many thanks for all of the visits and constructive comments to which I will reply in more detail later. Today is a public holiday and it is the time when gurus say there is little or no risk of frost. So it has been a Spring cleaning day thus far along with cutting the grass and other home related tasks.

Here is one of my granddaughter (foreground) shot at 8000 ISO in very low light from a distance with my slow 70-300mm Nikkor. I did apply some noise reduction with lightroom 5.

Not a perfect shot by any means but good memories for me.

Michail L - I will explore the B&W option. The blue is not ice but that of a heavenly sky. I actually changed the blue to purple but came back to the blue.

Fantastic capture of movement and grace. I think it also works very well in B&W. This goes in my favs, Alfredo

Indeed, Tony - angels gently flapping their wings.  The image successfully captures the dynamism of the dance, but I wish that faces were clearer.  Clearly the photo of your granddaughter taking a break on the stage works quite well, especially regarding its clarity.

Eystein  - thanks for stopping by and glad you liked it.

Michail L - Thanks for the suggestion of going BW - will try. The one you produced is a tad dark and changes the atmosphere.

Patsy - Glad you liked it.

Mike (MLM) - we finally have summer weather here. You and I had a discussion about the number of views and this one inexplicably has gotten off to a rapid start.

Alfredo - glad you liked it enough to put in your favorites.

Michael. This type of motion shot is really a hit and miss. To get this effect , you have to use a slow shutter speed and getting a well defined face is a matter of luck and chance unless you use a different technique with flash which was not permitted. It was an experiment with many misses but thought this was the best of the lot.

All the best,

Love the sense of movement and the ethereal effect it brings. I like the idea of B & W, maybe with a high-key effect added too?

Well done Tony!

Charles Thanks. A dance show like this takes me out of my landscape element  and forces me to learn through experimentation.  Re granddaughter, with a strong bias, I agree.

A week ago about 20 kms away from where I live, a 24 year old man scooped up a 7 year old girl and started to run.  Her father and others caught up to him and it ended "well".  Stuff like that makes me boil.

Alf Thanks. I do plan to try a B&W version.

Pierre - "weird in an artistic way" I suppose (*_*)

Tony,  You created some nice abstracts here and also memorialized the event.  I like the color version.  Your fussing around results in a Degas looking image. Quite nice.    Larry
