This is a stunning and excellent image. It is not real, at least it looks so. You have an eye for the extraordinary moments and places. Best regards,

Herman

That light, almost like a set.  And the bridge trestles in the background.  (And that face mask, matter of fact, part of daily living...germophobia, or a necessary precaution in densely populated areas?)

Given your comment about my "To Have and Have Not", I was somewhat startled by the verisimilitude of photography as it is played out by both images. Verisimilitude, of course, is the seeming oddity that while scientific inquiry and theory is officially aimed at discovering the truth, the overwhelming scientific theories are false, and despite the particular theory's confirmed falsity, more theories are heaped on top of it in a cascade of lies, half truths and fantasies. The most prominent, of course, is the theory of evolution; and the discovery of "India" by heading West. You could also add "global warming" to the list. But, this is not about scientific critique, but about photography, what we set out to say and what ends up on the page and how we react to it.

I'm assuming you sat next to the young lady and was fascinated by her engrossment in her device while wearing a rather startling face mask. This is not unlike one of my favorite images here of the naked saint chatting away on his cell phone. Yet, as you lined up the shot and squared it with the visions in in your head, the train kept hurtling along on his journey, carrying, I'm sure, hundreds of souls to their destinations, totally unaware--though they sat next to you--of the content of that vision. The camera, neither friend nor foe, merely mechanically snapped away and did its brain dead thing, and, lo and behold, caught the totally innocent, totally disinterested bridge, sitting there hundreds of yards away, but wrapping around your subject and your world like a steel cocoon.

I'm assuming when you looked at the image, you became aware that the Emperor did in have have on some clothes, some steel garb you could not ignore, so, like the wart on the nose of the otherwise ravishing beauty, it became the story, just because you could not well nigh ignore it. As far as my image, since I must touch it, having introduced it here, I never saw the homeless guy in the background, but was focused on the young woman, who stood in line before me for what seemed an eternity, as we both ordered $5.50 coffee from the latest "thing", Phil's coffee. The title very well applied to me as well.
