3 image HDR with Nik HDR. The first version looked too 'flat' so I did some additional processing.

If you hadn't told us, I wouldn't have known this is HDR.  Sorta my hallmark of how HDR should be used.  Excellent work and the image is beautiful... Mike

I  fully agree with the above comments, the use of HDR is tasteful and superbly rendered!

Very well done Tony!

Tony,    Nice image.  The water looks like it is boiling.  That happened to the lakes here too when really cold weather switched to warm.  The tree effectively blocks out any blow out from the sun and leaves a nice yellow glow.  How do you like the Nik software?   I use Dfine2,  Viveza2 and the RAW pre-sharpener regularly.   Larry

Mike, Eyestein, Patsy, Jack, Alf, Rosario,

Lee, Larry, Pierre and Aj - thanks for stopping by and writing all of those wonderful comments which are very much appreciated.

In my younger days, I use to experiment and go for the "HDR" look but after a while it begins to look the same and my taste buds have changes.  The D810 is supposed to have excellent dynamic range which should enable a single image to suffice. On one ocassion as I dug into the very dark shadowed area ("Nasal exploration) and was coming up with details. Based on comments here at PN on a specific image it seemed like the shadow detail extraction were not as sharp as other parts of the image that were well lit. Whether this is true or not, I do bracketed images as insurance to getting the best possible image especially as most scenes are not repeatable.

Larry re NIK products: I have only started to experiment with the free NIK HDR software but it will take time getting to know how to get the best from it. I am a slow learner. I have not tried their other products as yet but I know on whose door I can tap for advice and tips.

My initial reaction to Nik HDR is that it seems quite easy to get 'natural' results but the result looks a little flat. That is probably because I don't how to use it the software.

All the best,
