jasonsmith894 0 Posted February 18, 2016 Any thoughts about cropping out some of the space on the left side of the image? Other comments are also appreciated. Link to comment
rjmelone 3 Posted February 18, 2016 A beautiful scene Jason with nice use of light, color and motion. I wouldn't crop any more from the left, but if you have any more foreground just before the rocks, that might work. Rob Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted February 18, 2016 I think the composition is well balanced as it is.The space to the left gives the impression of an open expanse, kind of room to breath, which in my humble opinion should be retained.A lovely photograph in every aspect, very well done! Alf Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 19, 2016 I'll agree with Rob and Alf, there's nothing wrong with this image at all; beautifully captured and presented. I'm on an iPad right now, without an app to test this, but I gather the left side bothers you whether we like it or not, so (just for an excercise) try cropping to a 5x7 format and see if you like that... gb3 6 Posted February 19, 2016 Hey, it is very good as is. It may be an example of a image that works WELL when not following the 'rules', e.g., not centering subjects. Don't sweat it at all (actually, has two golden ratios that work to its advantage). Nice work! Link to comment
western_isles 12 Posted February 19, 2016 Jason, I would leave this image as it is as it's superb. Well done. Link to comment
JeffBryce 0 Posted February 19, 2016 Nice pastel colors. I really like the sharpness on the foreground rocks. The only thing that needs adjustment is the horizon, as it tilts slightly right in this presentation. Regards, Jeff Link to comment
DavidTriplett 12,682 Posted February 20, 2016 Jason, ditto to all the above. (Yes, level the horizon.) If you want to play with crop, >10% from the top edge and >5% from the bottom to add a sense of panorama. Keep the horizon away from the middle. The leading lines of the of the piles need a place to go, so the left side works as negative space. The long exposure is very effective here. Well done. Link to comment
jasonsmith894 0 Posted February 21, 2016 Thank you for all the feedback. I wasn't sure about whether to crop, but it sounds like I made the right choice not doing so. I didn't realize the horizon was slightly tilted, I'll be sure to correct that; thank you to those who pointed it out. Thanks again for all the helpful comments. Jason Link to comment
