I guess we don't need real cameras anymore if you can get a shot like this with a cell phone. I:m just about the last person I know that doesn't own one and probably the only reason I would get one someday is for the neat little camera that you've always got with you. Looks like you got up pretty early for this one. At least it feels like early morning rather than late afternoon. I love the softness of the color in the gathering light and the still deep shadows..

At the file level, Jack, one can sure see the difference!  In addition, there is no raw file available (not on my phone, anyway), and there are no controls that I can find.  In addition, the wide angle lens required me to walk almost across the street to fill up the screen with what I wanted to capture.  (There is no viewfinder.)

Still, I appreciate the kind words.  It was actually shot just before sunset--and it was getting cold fast.  As they say, one typically has the phone with one--I did not go out to shoot, just to take a walk.  There is that advantage, that there are some shots that one would miss were it not for having the phone.

Here is a one hundred percent crop at 616x513.  I had already adjusted brightness and contrast.  Otherwise there was no manipulation.

One can sure see the limits of the cell phone file here.

. . . or at least the limits at low light, with a correspondingly slow shutter.  I haven't bothered to take enough comparative shots in good versus poor light to know for sure.

This was made with a third generation phone.  I feel sure that some can do better now.

Well composed piece of americana Landrum. I love the name of this place. You guys are right the best thing we can say about camera phones is that we always have them with us.

Best Regards, Holger
