Thank you all for very much feeling this portrait... it was inspired by stephanie's statement about photographer's being able to document that being elderly and suffering from dementia is not always painful and horrifying. We all have our moments of dementia throughout our lives, which can be pleasant an amusing... this is my 93 yr old father, a kind man who often had pleasant demented moments thru his life ;-} dp

Donna, as one who is experiencing the impact of dementia in a close friend, I am grateful that you posted this image. I must also applaud both you and your father for your courage, yours in taking his photograph and his for mugging for you. . My friend still has a wonderful, yet subtle, sense of humor. Every once in a while he will crack a joke in the style of an old-time Catskill Mountain comedian that has me in tears. Such experiences bring back wonderful memories of my own father, who was altogether off the wall; in his 20s he worked at Minsky's burlesque house entertaining the audience in between strippers. - - My best, michael

Michael, dear... thank you so much for your touching thoughts... father has passed now, but I'm glad I have this photo of his last days... I wish your friend much peace... your father sounds wonderful ;-} dp
