you can be a criminal AND an artist. They are not mutually exclusive. You can even be a great person and a criminal. Gandhi and Nelson Mandella spent lots of time in jail. Both declared criminals in their respective countries. What is it about a criminal that prevents us seeing any redeeming qualities in them. I think some of the greatest people of all time have spent time in jail. How about Jesus? How about Jean Valjean? On the other hand we have "good citizens" who never spend time in jail but who take and take and never think of returning anything. Like the execs of Enron. I don't mean to offend any of you in judgement of this young man. But I suggest that your judgement of him prevents you from seeing his value. Rant mode off.

On this one, I wish I could see more of his face and more of the piece on which he is working. I know, easy for me to say. If you back up he becomes very small but to get people to see the value in this guy you either have to show the beauty in his work or the beauty in his face. My opinion only.

His value? He has no repect for other's property. These tags are rarely understandable. If you have a message but can't convey it, what have you done? Nothing. Ghandi presented a message anyone could understand. He didn't destroy or deface someone else's property to deliver it. William Wilberforce

fought slavery with well-reasoned arguments against it, not mindless painting on a wall. Defending this is defending anarchy. Now, the picture. It is decent snapshot of a crime.

There seem to be two issues going on here. One is the intent of the person in the photo, the other is the intent of the photographer. If a journalist photographs a shooting, does it mean he is condoning the crime? The Pulitzer Prize has been given to photographers recording far worse crimes than this. Isn't it assumption that this person is spraying graffiti, or is that implied in the word "again" in the title. I didn't think this sort of act was carried out in broad daylight. In our city, taggers have actually been hired to create murals on commercial buildings to harness their artistic talent and to teach them respect for property. Perhaps Judith can set the record straight here. As for the photograph, it's a well balanced composition. The shadow is interesting, portraying the person in a kneeling position with head bowed - a bit chastised, or repentant perhaps? I'd be interested to hear the real story on this.

Walter Strong said he was a criminal not an artist. I am simply saying those two things are not mutually exclusive. I am also saying that criminals can be good people. Can you dispute either of these? It looks to me like he is painting on temporary panels that have been placed there. For all I know they have been placed there specifically for street kids to paint. The last thing I want to do is to be so quick to judge a young person that I am blinded to his value. I am sorry that there are those quick to condemn him. I find that much more destructive than painting on a temporary panel.

okay

u all arent really familliar with graffiti.

painting is no crime.

during the day hardly any illegeal act will be done.

only for films and this is really really wicked.

nroamlley its made on legal walls..

some graff u will like, i promise.

i dont speak of vandalism.

use cans for art not vandalism.

i, for myself, dont have messages in the painting itself.i reduce messages to short sentences.

mostly political statements..

anyway

people who say taggers are criminals are IDIOTS.

and that is what i stand for.

thanks

good night
