ImageDescription: Sleeping Northern Saw Whet Owl. Strictly nocturnal, roosts in dense evergreens in winter, sometimes incredibly tame, I located this resting owl by searching for its excrement whitewash underneath its favored daytime perch. I used bungee cords to hold back tree branches for several photographs and then removed the cords, allowing the owl to continue resting. Photos taken along Delaware River near West Deptford, site of Riverwinds recreation site;
