I was ready for the gym one day and the sun's patterns on my wood

floor called to me. The original is in color, but this has been

switched to duotone. The color version can be found in one of my

folders for public viewing. This is a self portrait using a timer

and tripod.

this is very beautiful, but the blown out highlights on your posterior and on the sweater are very distracting to me--they are completely lacking in any detail. if possible, I would suggest burning them in a bit, either digitally, or in the darkroom--just enough so that there is a little detail there.

Very nice. I like the composition and think that B&W is the best choice for this shot. If you were to do any manipulating, though, I'd suggest getting rid of the chair in the background.

This is a contemporary image done by someone who knows that this has been done hundreds of times before and who needed to transcend the act of merely copying. The picture succeeds in doing this, admirably. Thank you Katrina

I keep coming back to look at this as it is so good. I love that shadow in the front. it makes the rest of the photo look like its floating. and I think the chair adds dimension to the photo.

Yea, it could have had just a little bit better lighting, but even though I think craft is very important I would much rather look at a photo with great content and less than perfect craft than one with perfect craft and lousy content.

This photo has great content in more ways than one. Kevin

I look at this shot and I think four things:

-This shot *has* been done a zillion times before.

-The homicide photographer forgot to turn his flash on.

-All of the replies are from men and they need to stop typing with one hand.

-Katrina had the right idea, right pose and lighting, but she missed the camera angle because it's too straight on. She should have got rid of the thing in the background, and raised her camera height as much as possible while pointing at the same spot to capture more of the *plane* of the floor and lighting.

Thanks for all the constructive criticism. I have some photography books on order so hopefully future submittals will show improved technique.

I take offense to Mr. Eaton's rude and insulting suggestion with regard to typing. Does he include himself in that remark? Remarks like those are probably what cause more women not to participate. Moreover, I would remind him that this photo is Ms. O"leary's art and not his. There is nothing wrong with that "thing" in the background if Ms. O'leary decided that is what she wanted in her art, and I think the camera angle is just fine the way it is if that was the way Ms. O'leary wanted it. As far as the shot been done a million times before, it has. But a better and kinder way to state that would be to say that it has been a "common theme" and besides, even if it has been done a million times before, it has not been done a million times before with Mr. O'leary's body as the main subject matter. OK here it is in black and white. I actually find the color one more pleasing. The blown out highlights here seem to be mroe obvious. I still don't see anything though. Well besides the obvious.

Nice shot. Very good.

If the contrast of highlights would be just a litle bit lower, and there would be some more detail on the sweatshirt... this would be excelent.
