I was going through some images I shot while the family and I were in

Cabo San Lucas a couple years ago and this one struck me. I remember

going out to the beach to take an amazing sunset picture but Mother

Nature said "not so fast" and proceeded to cloud things over. I

started walking around enjoying the warmth (I'm from the Pacific

Northwest after all) and I was suddenly aware of the color and texture

of the sand. I setup to try and capture that feeling and I was

wondering if you can actually capture a "feeling" in a picture. Well,

this is my attempt at doing just that. I would love to hear your

thoughts, good or bad, as this particular image is a fairly dramatic

departure from my "normal" work. Thanks for taking the time to view

and comment.

HIiCraig,   I think you have created an excellent minimalist abstract of the beach.  The colors and lonely emptiness and mood of the image make an impactful statement.  Also, the cool blues are set off well by the warmer reddish beach.  To me it's the blur of the white water that creates the abstract.  Am I grasping what you are doing here?  Larry

I was definitely going for the minimalist look here.  I almost posted this in the abstract category but opted for landscape...well, just because.  My mood when I shot this was a little introspective, like I said in my critique post I was hoping to shoot a beautiful sunset but as you can see, I had to change my plan.  This is something that any landscape photographer knows very well and I quickly changed my plan to something more abstract.  My main thought was to capture the sand sharp and crisp and extend the exposure as long as possible to allow the waves to take on an almost fog appearance.  All that was left at that point was to have attractive lines that would "guide" the viewer through the image.

Thanks again for your comment, it means a lot to me.

Craig,

This is a wonderful representation of the sea, so simple, but so beautiful !!

It is an open door for the viewer, inviting him to step on the wet sand and far away, into a magic sea.... The textures and chromatic are perfect combined and the thin transparent layer of water is adding a fine art look !!

Great work, congrats !!

This for me is an image of subtle contrasts.  I am attracted to the contrasting smooth textures of the sea against the gritty sand, the contrasting colours and the diagonal lighter line of surf that separates the two. Sometimes less is more and that is definitely the case here. Very well done for seizing an opportunity from an initially disappointing circumstance.

Best Regards
