Nice work done hand held? I've heard these are easier from a tripod on bulb setting?

I watched for the spark trail of the rocket and panned along with it. Once the firework detonated, I held the camera still and shot using the continuous mode. A D1H would have been ideal for this particular subject with its rapid drive (5 FPS, I think), but, as we say in the west, "Ya dance with the one ya brung."

Oh, I don't know. Perhaps at 10 or 12 frames per second we all would be able to expertly make such captures. I know I would (wink, wink)! In the meantime, you've done it without all that unnecessarily added apparatus and it looks great!
