nathanielpaust 0 Posted May 23, 2001 Unfortunately, this isn't a particularly original photos. I think that every photographer who has ever been been to Seattle has shot this picture. Look at my portfolio to see several of them (they're all unoriginal too). The other problem is that the picture is just too dark. A graduated neutral density filter would probably have done wonders. chjohnson 0 Posted May 23, 2001 Sure, this shot has been taken time and time again, but what makes each shot fresh is a variation in the lighting and sky. Here, the soft clouds are simply marvelous. The overall image does look a little dark, but I am sure that it would print better than it appears after scanning and converting for the web. The fact that I can see detail in the foreground building to me means that the original is probably even better. Plus, I do not think a graduated neutral density filter would have worked because of the height of the Needle. Link to comment

s_wan 0 Posted July 30, 2001 Whether a ND grad was used or not I think the light is particularly unusual for a major city. What also strikes me in this image is that I don't recall Mt Rainier ever looking that big when I last viewed it from the top of the Needle... Link to comment
thomadeus 1 Posted July 31, 2001 That's 'cause your eye doesn't use a 98mm focal length! ;-) Link to comment

suzanne_berry 0 Posted May 23, 2002 I don't think a photo has to be original to be good. Each photographer has their own way of shooting the same shot and having it come out different than the others. This one may be from the same spot as many others, yet it is different. I love the way Mount Rainier stands out in the background with the light still on it. Keep shooting Thomas, I've enjoyed going through your folders! Link to comment
jesse_jenkins1 0 Posted August 16, 2002 Yes the city is dark but the Space Needle stands out because of. This gives the photo balance with Mt. Rainier. Then theres that sky... cool. Link to comment
