Wasn't sure where to put this so I put it in nudes. The model was nude so hopefully it

is OK. Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dana.

this is strange, but very very cool, Dana! with the shoulder, arm, and hand in that contorted Y, the light can be made very delicious... abstract and real... well done   ;-} dp

Interesting question of how to categorize it. It seems appropriate for nudes, especially given the context of the rest of your body of work. Could also fit into fine art, abstract, and I actually see it as a still life as well. Because I keep seeing it as an upside-down "V", I tried rotating it and the photo takes on a kind of in-your-face gesture when the fist is in the upper part of the frame . . . interesting. The low key effect gives this a more moody kind of feeling and yet you've managed to capture the increase in light in a subtle but yet very effective movement from her fingers to her shoulder. I've said this before about one or more of your figure photos, and it's likely as much me as the photos, but I get a kind of positive and strong energy here from the angularity, emphasis on musculature, and tension of pose that's usually reserved for masculine subjects but works really well in a contemporary feminine sense of awareness and embodiment.

Great use of light to bring interest to her form. I like the grainy texture, good choice for b/w. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. :)

I studied this for quite a while yesterday. I realised there was something about it but couldn't put my finger on it. Today, I realised if you cropped out the head and the hand, you might not be able to tell if this is an arm or a foot.

Thanks to everyone for commenting.

Donna.  I find it a bit strange as well and am glad you think it is cool.  I am a bit of a nerd and don't get in the "cool" category very often :-).  I like that you describe the light as delicious.  That is a wonderful compliment for me.  Abstract and real; a perfect description.

Fred G.  I am glad that you mentioned that you saw it as a potential still life.  I hadn't really considered that and like the idea very much.  I am always hesitant to put my stuff in fine art because I am not sure about what that category really means.   The title was really a pun (probably a bad one).  It wasn't a comment on the shape but a comment on "why?".  That probably doesn't make a bit of sense but that is what I was thinking.  I did try rotating it and agree it takes on a different flavor; "more in your face" is a perfect description.  I settled on this because it seemed to have more "gravity" and fit the low key lighting.  This is also how I shot it and, although I am not bashful about manipulation, it is pretty satisfying to see it in camera.    I am also pleased you commented on the light and am glad that you are seeing the strength in the images.  Many of my models are strong (physically and mentally) and independent women and I am really pleased the images bring this across.

Trisha.  I am pleased the lighting seemed to work well for everyone.   I really appreciate the comment on grain because I struggle with that sometimes and the feedback is valuable.

David.  Neat observation that I hadn't considered.  I might have to play around with that a bit.

Maurizio.  A bravo from my Italian friend is always a thrill.

Thank you again to everyone for taking the time to make such thoughtful comments.

All the best.  Dana...
