Handheld shot! The Tercell would hold the kill with his legs and when the female got close he would transfer the kill to his beak waiting to release when the female are a some inches away below him. The kill sort of float in the air briefly before being grab by the female.

You make your own luck in this photography TM, this is one incredible photo, I am so envious. As a former Falconer as well as a current bird photographer I am totally baffled as to how you even got close to to these two birds in the first place. Having trained and hunted Falcons I know just how fast and high they fly. Well done mate, I think it has all been said above. Super dooper shot ;-)
