I haven't been here in a while and I was going to go looking for you Jack and there you were. I like this muchly I do. A most curious placement of the chain I'm thinking. I would love to have both of these chairs too for my 'prop department'. They both look like they've had better days but I think they are worthy of restoration. Particularly the one on the left. Do it a favor Jack, steal it and return it to its former glory.

The distinct personalities of those who usually sit in the chairs stand out despite their absence

Your title indicates two old chairs but the first thing that caught my eye is the chain. For the two chairs I can easily imagine persons sitting there but the chain has my entire focus. Why is it there? why is it so low? Is it protecting the chairs?

All the best,

Like Tony, I notices the chain - seems like these two old harmlessly-looking chaps are chained for a good reason :-)

Love the geometry, colours & the fact you passed here at the right time: the shadow frames the chairs very effectively and puts them into the limelight.

Jack, A nice, tranquil image. Yet there is a lot to notice, but they are integrated in the entirety. I think the chain as Tony and Wolgang noticed, must prefend theft of the chairs in the night.

Hmm why would there be a chain hanging in front of a door. The chain runs behind the chairs and there is a rope running off the chain going out of the frame. A true mystery. The door may merely be to a utility, then the chain would not pose a tripping threat, and who sits here and why? Clue us in master Jack. It's also well seen with great color. You've certainly got people wondering!

The setting looks institutional because of the metal and concrete, which does contrast nicely with the color and texture of the wood.  But the austere scene with the chain, and the uncomfortable-looking chairs, bring to mind a prison.  To me, this looks like a pair of electric chairs.

A good one, works very well.

Just one remark: the horizontal and vertical alignments are critical. It seem that either the vertical lines - the ones you have chosen - or the horizontal lines are square. I miss the latter. An I see that it could be impossible.

Thanks for taking the time to put down your thoughts on this picture. Yes, the chain, that damned chain which turns a retirees dream into a prison yard. These two old inmates are obviously serving a life sentence. I agree, the whole thing is pretty odd and I have no more clue about the reality of the situation than you do so go ahead and speculate to your heart:s content. Luca, as for squaring up the picture, I agree. I could have been a bit more careful on the left side. Thanks for pointing that out.

These two old chairs share an authenticity of style and beauty.  They are still elegant and composed, enjoying a bit of sunshine into this dull, strict and severe environment.

I see kind of slavery of the good old stuff to the new! Ruthless exploitation of the first by the latest, ha! A bit imagination and poetry!

Best regards, Jack!

The complementary color scheme strikes me as interesting, making the chairs pop out from their blue background.  The slats in the front look a little bit slack-jawed, which adds to the personification angle.

First,  I like the two chairs, they are a real characters. The rectangular elements in blue is a very good background for the chairs and the neutral gray wall add even more to this image. A very nice composition.

Have a lovely day.
