Tony, :) like I said to you ... a little overexposed 2/3 and I think ... first you put your desired aperture to shutter, then you choose ISO, search for the mínimum one (not high, not to focus much background trees) just to give you the best time for the shot (quick time). But I think your first priority is the opening of the diaphragm.

Well, it's unique, beautiful and pure. You could have called it "purity". I remain spellbound watching it. It's a pleasure to try to understand art/technique of a photographer like you, then there's your genius, and how those eyes of yours can see and arrange everything.

Thanks for sharing, Tony. Happy Sunday!.

Many thanks for your technical advice and how well you liked it. Both are appreciated.

I did overexpose a bit because this was the visual effect that I wanted for this one  I did not title it as yet - I was thinking Baptism, Leader of the pack, Cleansed and a few more and none of them seemed to embody what I think this  image is trying to say.   Brides wear white at weddings and mourners wear black at funerals and I wondered if I wanted to go along with these societal norms.  I like your "Purity' suggestion but I think I will go with Peaceful since the world needs a big injection of that these days.

Thank you for your other most kind words - perhaps too kind since I am really just a "simple person" doing my best to capture elements around me.

Be well and continue with your magnificent images,

PS I do promise to stop by everyone's images in the near future.

great comp Tony.....i love trying to find scenes like that and have had some decent luck on golf courses.....just need snow and some 30mph winds to plaster the tree's.......:)

I really like the sparseness and rhythm of this shot, Tony. Because of the snow (and possibly your processing choices), the image is all line and minimum texture which works perfectly to simplify things and reveal the underlying motif.

Beautiful work Tony! I love the lone tree in the foreground; it's as if he is the speaker for the tribe. I love the simplicity in this image. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. :)

Peaceful is a great title.  But I could also see something like 'Togetherness' or even 'Family'.  These trees just have a familial type of relationship, with the patriarch standing out front.  Weird how this strikes me.....but that's what I feel.  It's a beautiful image in every way, and I feel a serenity in the scene that is comforting.  I can see it being sold as one of the posters that have motivational sayings on them.  I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday, Tony!  Looking forward to another year of your fantastic work!

Franz - thanks. Currently I am not putting my images up for ratings but it does not mean that I might not do that in the future. Ratings (I have had very good days) can be both a source of recognition among my peers and also a source of frustration when an image like this can be rated with a '1' (meaning absolutely junk aesthetically and technically). I would put up my 5 year old granddaughter's image where the auto-focus caught the background instead of her friends and it was rated better than mine. It just occurred to me that I could try that as an artistic technique for the Fine Art category (*_*).

Bachir - Thanks - I am no maestro - just trying to be better.

Thom - it is no golf course - it is a clump of trees that you can see at the left of the image titled "geesh it is windy". These trees are adjacent to a bike path.

Jack - I did have simplification as an objective.

Larry - snow can be a wonderland but it can be a challenge - exposure adjustments and achieving a balance between whiteness and details plus artistic decisions.

Trisha: I can see this as the leader of the tribe. This reminds me of one of mother's sayings since leaders can often be targets:  "show me a Hero (or Leader) and I will show you blood". This resulted in me carefully selecting which battles to pursue.

Christal:  I will try and seek to improve,  I will not always succeed, but, I will try. The shutter actuations on my D300 are at the point where I could experience sudden failure and I have been looking at potential replacements for over a year and every time I think I have discovered 'the one', something new comes out to muddy the waters of my decision making.

Thanks for the well wishes and I extend the same to you and all of your family and I am sure you will be journeying to Alberta as many times as you can because of family there. As to titling the image "family" - I would prefer to see two trees in the foreground  in that case.

To Everyone:

Christmas is fast approaching and this time of year means different things to different people so I will take the cue from a fellow member of photo.net to wish you "Love and Peace".

Tony,

A beautiful peace of artwork. Excellent composition. The trees on a plain background make a strong statement. Expressive and emotional. I believe that beauty is always in simplicity.

IMO, it is properly exposed. The snow is somewhere in the zone 7 1/2. If it was exposed by 2/3 of a stop less (as suggested in one of the comments), the snow would be too dark and gray, the contrast between the dark tree trunks  and the background would be too low, and the result would be a boring gray image.

Best regards,

Vasily
