Walter Dunn Pigeon Fancier

nickwalton

My first upload to photo.net in years, and my work has changed immensely (so I'm clearing out my old PF). This is one of the still lives I have been working on, lit with a single 10 lumens torch over a number of exposures(about 10 for different areas of the image), then blended in Photoshop.

I've recently returned to Photo.net, and I'm experimenting with various

lighting techniques. This is lit with a single torch (ca 10 lumens) with a

home made modifier. About 10 images bonded in photoshop (for various

parts of the image) as I found it near impossible to do in a single take

(camera in bulb mode)

From thumbnail I thought for sure that is an excellent composition and work.Result of your technique is awesome for this still life image, light play with shadows and colors too gives a special mood for this, also elements of composition that transfer us in a world maybe a century ago or more, the cherry on the cake is smoke for sure that creates the feeling of life.My compliments sincerely for this photo.

Hi Nick.

I think the effort was worth it! I like the result and all the elements here, especially the smoke of the pipe. The lighting is perfect too!

Welcome back!

Kind Regrds,

Rosario.

Ancient objects well arranged with a pipe which makes it alive with its smoke, most original and beautiful image, seven all the way and congratulations, Nick!

Best regards

Great composition and lighting.  Love the objects, especially the old miners lamp.  Very well done.

I agree with most everyone who has commented so far. The image is very well composed and lighting near perfect. The only thing that bothers my eye a bit is the light under the ashtray. But hey, my eye isn't always right. This is a 7 for sure.

Thanks Thomas and Jean.

Jean I really welcome constructive comments.

The light under the ashtray, is from the ashtray - its coloured glass so casts orange light, its one of the reasons I used it as I like the effect, I have other images I will upload at a later date, that are lit by conventional means where the effect is the same.

Hi David, Walter is a fictitious character I created. I bought the clock from a well known auction site, and it came with the inscription "W Dunn" it helped me personalise it and think about how to bring it alive. I imagined Walter to be a middle aged man, who was a miner by profession, his passion was Pigeon racing, and he relaxed waiting for his birds, smoking his pipe and reading his paper.

Such a realistic atmosphere, bringing the past to the present. The colors are exceptional, as is the setting. Thank you for sharing this most interesting technique, which has yielded a superb result indeed. Congratulations.
