Mvh Nina Link to comment

agaudio 0 Posted September 18, 2003 Two words .. Pristine and Angelic. The blue in the eyes really draws me in. I can't stop looking at this picture. Link to comment
margaret_s. 0 Posted September 18, 2003 This image has a very outerwordly, angelic feel to it. Looking into her eyes, I see a combination of innocence and wisdom beyond her years. The only that I'm missing though is a lack of warmth in the expression. Link to comment
saratogatravel 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Wonderfull effect. I love the eyes. Is she your daughter? She's a charmer. Link to comment
tom lavin 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Stunning! Wonderful, articulate composition. This should be on the cover of something. However.......there is one compositional flaw that keeps distracting me. The line of the right cheek is parallel to the bottom of the frame, and it looks a bit odd. My eye keeps drifting back to this area, despite the strong eyes. I tried chopping off just a bit of the bottom, and I liked it better - what do you think? There might be a bit too much of nothing on the right side that could be cropped. Nevertheless, a spectacular image. Link to comment
nina1 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Thank you all so very much for your positive critiques!!! Yes Tom - she's my (4 year old) daughter. And yes - she's a doll :) But then again I'm her mother - so I guess I'm supposed to feel this way about her ;) Thanks a lot for the suggestion on the crop Thomas! I'll keep it in mind for later. Have a great day everybody!!! Best wishes Nina Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Nina, She is a doll.....and I'm not her mother. Wonderful shot, like it as is. Link to comment
through the viewfinder 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Nice shot. I'd crop it on the right, behind the ear, so the viewer will focus on the face (particularly the eyes), and not wander over to the empty space on the right. Link to comment
nadine_stanton 0 Posted September 21, 2003 I absolutely love this portrait. I am pretty new to photography an would love to know how you created such an angelic image!! Link to comment
wespettus 0 Posted September 21, 2003 I love this shot. It reaches out and grabs you. She has such piercing eyes. I like the high key treatment alot, although I wish her chin wasn't disappearing quite so much. Good job! Link to comment
m. welninski 0 Posted October 3, 2003 Reminds me of the end of "2001, A Space Odyssey". The eyes just leap at you. Excellent. Link to comment
michaelk 0 Posted October 19, 2003 Amazing, I would love to do this with either my 5 or 3 year old but I don't have a clue about high key lighting. Can you give some info on how you did this. Link to comment
nina1 0 Posted October 19, 2003 Thanks a lot Michael! Here's how I made the high key effect on the Sweet Angel picture; I've basically used the Dodge tool in Photoshop to create the look on that image. I used a pretty large brush size (60-200 pixels in the large areas) and low opacity (aprox 10-15 opacity). Slowly changing the picture by working the highlights, midtones and shadow area. Some trial and error here - a good tip is to duplicate the layers as you proceed so that you quickly can go back a few steps if you don't like the outcome... When I had made the picture fairly light I added some Diffuse Glow filter in Photoshop (Filter - Disort - Diffuse Glow) with the setting 0 - 3 - 15 if I remember correctly. That really creates that dreamy/light look on the face - but you really have to lighten the picture a bit first if you're looking for the same effect I have on the Sweet Angel pic. As you've probably noticed I didn't lighten the eyes. I didn't mask the eyes - just carefully used the dodge tool around them to get a smooth transaction. I'm not sure if this helped much - but I guess this is as good as I come trying to explain how I did this. Take care - and good luck with you photos and Photoshop :) Best wishes Nina Link to comment
