Hard to turn local news paper coverage into decent photography (imagine

this printed 2" square in b&w poor quality and you get the idea) HOWEVER

I figure if I have to take the time to turn up I may as well take the trouble to

capture an interesting perspective on the charity bungee jump. Any

thoughts?

An interesting image. Still, I cannot seem to be able to see where he is falling. Since he is placed on the top of the image it in a way looks like he is falling downwards. But the bungee suggests that he is falling upwards in the image (the bungee stretches from below towards the top). From that i deduce (by reason) that the image must be taken from below (because the heaven is above it cannot be from above) and that he is falling towards us and the top of the image (outwards from the jumping place?). But this is a deduction, not something my eye catches immediately. Then there is the light that says he has the sun behind his back which suggests that he is falling towards the bottom of the image.

All these clues that are somewhat contradictory makes an immediate impression that is static, or confusing. He is standing still in the air, flying, not falling. In addition the vignetting is working in the same way, constraining outwards movement.

Yellow and blue are contrasting colors that add liveliness to the image, as well as the jumpers pose and facial expression.

I am lukewarm about this picture in terms of providing something that satisfies repeating viewing. It is a nice, sharp shot of a bungee jumper: presumably shot from below with a long lens, or from a neighboring vantage point with a not-so-long lens. Working out the orientation is probably the most interesting part of the viewing experience. It seems like something the bungee jumper would like to have as a record of their jump, but it does not offer to me that bit "extra" that elevates it more than that. Nothing wrong with that, and I doubt the photographer expects it to be considered high art either.

To me, the most interesting aspect of the image is a story line I gleaned from it. The image has captured a man in free fall tethered from below. Of course, that would make no rational sense.

Pleasing color, effectively positioned subject, and a great expression on the subject's face. What's not to like? It's a nice photo.

Martin, there are lots of nice photos distributed across the Internet. However, I would hope that the Elves are looking for more than just "nice" in the hope that the POTW will encourage dialogue.
