lynnemass 10 Posted July 3, 2014 I think it is interesting that you chose to have your subject in the center. It works. Makes her look more lonely. I really like your work a lot. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 3, 2014 For some reason here, I sense the presence, and the distance and even the aloneness of myself in the position of viewer, alongside the photographer. It's as if the woman being eyed by the camera is somehow reflecting back at all of us. Dare I take that seat at the table? What, then, would ensue? Link to comment
wogears 186 Posted July 4, 2014 Well done! Pose, light and reflections all work together. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted July 4, 2014 This works perfectly with the title. I really like her expression and body language.I do think she's too centered with some space at left and bottom that could be cropped. I tried a quickie. Hope you don't mind Link to comment
zhang_wei2 0 Posted July 5, 2014 At first glance she looks like she's on the phone with someone. A little confusing. Ignoring that, I like the moment you captured. She looks contemplating, lost in thoughts and a little lonely. I think I would have cropped the image slightly on both sides, just like Ken did. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 5, 2014 I worry that a crop makes it appear as a tighter and more traditionally-acceptable composition but loses the narrative and gestalt of the photo. The two complete windows make her feel more alone, though the reflection almost ironically belies that aloneness. Maybe for the very reasons that our eyes and minds are tending to reject the amount of space around her and even question the centering, that space and composition is effective. That we might want to remove it may suggest its necessity. Who wants to be alone or feel the breadth of someone else's aloneness? Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted July 5, 2014 I agree somewhat, but feel my eye wanders too much with the centering. I think she and her loneliness become stronger off center. Only one row of window panes and some sidewalk were cropped. The right side untouched Link to comment
svetlana_korolyova 27 Posted July 7, 2014 Thanks a lot for your comments and your attention to this shot!Perhaps a variant with a crop on the left side there is more compact, but I think that the variant without crop creates greater feeling of loneliness. Link to comment
