Waterball

lightwriter2

Unless I tell, you probably wouldn't have any idea what you're looking at. This is a crystal ball set on top of a glass cup in the kitchen sink. I turned the faucet on right ontop of the crystal ball, so that the water flow had some bubbles in it. I set the tripod right in front. A little sidelighting, and the onboard flash, voila.

thanks very much. I tried the slower shutter speed too. That was my original intention actually. A while ago, I tried to recreate a waterfall scene in the kitchen sink, using the faucet and strategically placed knives. I used a slow shutter speed to get the ghost like water, but... it didn't look so good though. I never even thought about that idea again until today, which is what brought me back to the kitchen sink. thanks again for the comments.

Eugene, you are great! I must confess that I smiled reading your technical details. I always enjoy visiting your portfolio because you are one of the most creative photographer around here. I do not know any other person having such a childlike curiosity. I wish more of us would have kept it! Go on inventing! I cannot wait to see more.

When I first looked at your photo I thought you were using some graffics engine but after reading how you did it my appreciation grew for your picture! Thanks for sharing with us.

This is really great. The first thought I had was of something out of a science fiction movie. You're right, I would've never guessed! I personally like the freeze-frame of the bubbles. It gives it that very peculiar texture which makes the photo so unusual!

It reminds me of some sort of mythical object that you would see in one of those really cool films set in Medieval times...all we need is the mop-headed boy-man dressed in a leather doublet to walk up to the object, gingerly touch it, and become enlightened with some sort of paranormal strength or spirit!

(Or maybe this is a good picture because it provokes my imagination a great deal!)

Was this done with a macro lens?

Well, you have great imagination. I used just a regular 28-105 zoom lens but with the focal length at about 90mm. The ball is just slightly larger than a baseball. thanks.
