Wonderful detail and sharpness capturing the essential character! The dof is excellent at  F / 2.8 and serves to show the features really well.

Interesting too how you illuminated the shot............I'd better write it down too because I'll also forget : - )

Sincere Compliments!

Alf,

I forgot to put here the lens used, the focal length was about 41mm equivalent to 135 format and I'm afraid I have mistaken the data here, it was zoomed to 8,4 (zoom 7-28) and the aperture was f/3,5 and it's 1/20 sec exposure time, therefore all data above in the reply to AJ are for the other, the previous picture, not for this one! And the black I only thought that I understood how was obtained, for this one I had to erase the whole background carefully! Sorry!

Thank you for your visit and comment!

Thank you Maria!

See the sharpness, not like your still life photos of food! And they at least don't move and you don't have to capture the right expression in the right moment!

Ha, the Pied Piper of Hamelin and his flute, he played and all the children followed, that's us I guess .. we didn't read the same books in schooldays Pierre .. : -)

The impression is different in colour and conveys another message, no less demanding and enigmatic. A striking portrait, one that conveys a feeling of apprehension nevertheless .. interesting as always.

That was a big compliment, then, John!

Thank you for translating me, I certainly didn't read what I was expected to! Apprehension you say, that made me look in my dictionary and there are two very different meanings, as always when English comes in question! But I think I know what you meant and that's also my feeling when I look at this picture!

Thank you for your fruitful visit, John!

Dear Pierre, many things have been said, as for me I can see a nice portrait that conveys a lot of meanings: solitude, waiting, sadness, forlornly, even great knowledge or wisdom learnt with the years ... the warm colours of the hat and the face are greatly achieved and the shadows also, I like it a lot!.
I've heard that a black background is ideal for nudes, so you've impressed me by using it in portraits, an excellent result!, I don't think you're psychologically burdened here, no, no...better you seem to be a mature mind!. You're like a character of Ernest Hemingway's novels, a rounded character surely, versus a flat one... Nice portrait Pierre! I'm waiting to see a smile on these small lips! Kindest regards! Laura M.

A head without a body...  ;-))  reminds me the skilled artist...

Looks  only   his spirit!  hiding in the hat!

Nice and a bit funny, despite his seren gaze..

Dear Laura,

It's not that I'm using back background, I'm hiding the ugly environment, ha!

Thank you for your thorough observation of this portrait! I think you have very penetrating eyes and mind!

Welcome, Pnina!

Funny, a? I didn't make it funny on purpose, maybe we are all funny looked from some angle!

Thank you for your precious visit and comment, my friend!

A colori, questa "testa con cappello" sembra ancora più...sospesa per aria!!! Come un pazzo? Come un artista? Come un uomo distaccato dal corpo e dal mondo? Forse un po' di tutto questo! Ciao amico!

Ahh, this handsome Hatman confesses to his tendency to wear many Hats. While I am not sure what has his sombre attention, he emerges to let us know of is presence. Man of Mystery and Intrigue????

always a delight, Gail

Caro amico, niente di tutto questo! questo è: Decapitato pazzo con un cappello che non è  il suo cappello, ha rubato mettersi in mostra!

La ringrazio molto per la vostra visita preziosa e il comento pazzo, amico mio!

Ciaomau

Dear Gail,

The hat-man thanks you for the compliment and tells you that there is no mystery in his "hatness" or madness! The hats he "borrowed", the poor guy doesn't have his own! He did it in favor of his dignity, he's with head shaven all the way round!

Thank you for your precious visit and witty comment!

Not your usual photoshop fare but certainly eye catching.  Not to give you too big a head but it reminded me of a famous Karsh portrait of Ernest Hemingway.  On a serious note I'd like to see the brightness levels increased a bit but not at the expense of your artistic license.   Nice new Bio photo by the way.  Reminds me, it's likely time for an update of my own.   Best, LM.
