The expressions really drew me in to this one Jack. The older woman almost appears 'vexed', yet she could have been deep in thought. The little girl in the stroller seems really interested in her,  or perhaps the aroma of the food. I don't know what is drawing the interest of 'Dad', but he seems engrossed, and Mom looks like she is a bit dazed, but that is probably just a coincidence. I've caught so many members of my family in such odd expressions depending on how quickly I get the capture. I really like your processing in this one Jack. The image stands out well in all areas.

Thanks for the comments on this one. Tenma is a neighborhood in Osaka and is the scene of (at least part of) the Tenjinbashi Shotengai (mall) which is the longest shopping street in Japan. The Tenma portion of the street is the oldest and the most cramped with twisted, shadowed alleys, covered arcades and tiny hole-in-the-wall stores and restaurants. I think the tight composition here pretty well echoes the feeling of the place. Gail, I know what you mean about expressions and gestures. I've seen pictures of myself where I look like the village idiot in full spasm. The images we hold of our selves seem to come right out of Photoplay Magazine, a Hollywood pin up magazine of yesteryear where every animated gesture was the essence of grace, no odd expressions were ever seen and physical imperfections were carefully air brushed away. That's one of the problems of candidly photographing friends and relatives, the results never seem to jibe with their self image. What I do like about the pictures is the almost sculptural feeling of this family members, as well as dad and his goofy hat, though I doubt that the family would really like it.

This is surreal.  I am not being fatuous.  There is an other-worldly feel to this ordinary scene.  Well done.

It is reminiscent of those movies where the protagonist is able to "freeze" the actions of people and go about doing their business before unfreezing the world again.

Actually the scenario seems to have frozen abruptly leaving that human warmth on hold under daddy's indifferent look.  Jack, your work is often challenging and reveal a remarkable spontaneity.  Nice one!

Great confusion of interest shown in most aesthetic manner! Great sepia tone and softening among other! Congratulations, Jack!

Best regards
