I like the composition and the separation between the GBH and the natural background. The details are good too! It looks like he's just swallowed a catch upon viewing the larger view.

Just looking back through some shots from the summer.  Actually, I think that the heron was cooling off..."mouth" breathing.

Thanks for clarifying Richard.

I really wasn't sure if that was the tail of a recent catch or, possibly a Tongue!

Although I've not yet witnessed a Heron doing the "cooling off" thing, I have observed other species of birds doing so and that would make sense here.
