Thank you so much for your most eloquent words and positive feedback.

Such stories are more common than perhaps we like to remember from our recent history.

great tree, superb rockwork, great sky . . .

I particularly like how the cloud pattern extends the branch pattern

and I really like the story having nothing physical to do with the tree . . .

Hi Alf

What a striking image!

I love the story and although it has no actual connection to the tree, your creative writing skill and photographic talent captivate my imagination to the point I can visualise Mary Bateman stood beneath the tree on the rocks, her arms stretched upward,  reaching towards the sky..... her boney fingers moving to the rythm of her incantations, causing sparks to fly from the tips of the branches creating those cloud formations......

I so admire your talent for capturing such visually stunning images that evoke such emotion and grasp the imagination

Excellent work Alf.... thank you for sharing :)

Warmest regards

Jacqueline

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback!

It was a bit of a challenge trying to get everything to line up, rocks, tree and sky, but ultimately worth it in the end.

The story really is a great bit of history, I'm surprised no one has made a movie of it.

Best Regards

It is a measure of an images success (in my opinion) if it can capture the imagination and connect with the emotion of its audience, and it's really most gratifying to read that this has captured yours.

Your vivid description of how you visualise the scene lends great impact and drama to the story, perhaps you should write the transcript for the film, I'm sure you could find a part for the tree : - )

Sincere Thanks for your most thoughtful and encouraging feedback!

Ms. Mary appears to be rising from the tree into the clouds with calm vengeance.  May she rest in peace.  I love the level of detail you've captured!

 "calm vengeance"

Now that's a chilling thought for the witnesses Mary's prosecution!

I might have to research this a bit more and weave a bit more magic into the tale!

Sincere Thanks Jeff!

Brilliant composition ! Even the clouds worked for you , echoing the shape of the tree ! Not sure where it is but it reminds me of the Limestone pavements above Malham . Bill

I am impressed to say the least! You nailed the location exactly!  It is on the other side of the road from Malham Tarn.

I had been hoping for some snow or fog, but I was more than pleased with the consolation prize of a good sky!

Sincere Thanks!

A real beauty of a composition Alf! I love the color and tonality as well as how the foreground elements create a nice border to the tree which creates a complementary element to the expanding sky.

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback.

Of all the shots I have taken, this one proved to be one of the most difficult in terms of composition, not least because of the awkward height I had to adopt to take it.  Standing up was no good as some of the tree branches didn't show clear to the sky, and kneeling down mean't that the foreground rocks obscured the trunk and some of the other rocks. In the end I adopted a half crouch position, which was a bit precarious to say the least.

Always good to hear from you!

Best Regards
