Great shot. I would suggest cropping some of the grass out, but that's just me. The eye contact is excellent.

I did crop out some, but what I left was for the effect of him/her standing guard over the burrow.

i understand that you are trying to show something happening here, but i think it would be a stronger photo just by cropping tight on the owl.
