Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 11, 2013 I absolutely love this one which feels like an exuberantly demented example of Japanese sumi-e. The combination of broad strokes (the warped and tortured trunk) and finely detailed lines (the twig-like branches stretching upward towards the sky) works beautifully here. The scattered reds are like splashes of dried blood. I like the way the tree completely fills the frame border to border, confronting the viewer without respite, like the painfully explosive work of some mad artist. I might cut about half an inch of the left side but that's a very small nit-pick. This one goes into my favorites. Link to comment
