This is a shot of my good friend playing guitar. What do you think?

Is the large, shadowed wall on the right too much? Does the contrast

work for this shot? Let me know.

I think it's nice semi moody shot. As guitar player I'm not quite sure if it's more effective to show someone playing guitar or holding their guitair and thinking about it. (some chords just look rather awkward... maybe nobody else notices this).. anyway... I couldn't resist taking a couple minutes to fiddle with your photo a bit... I think it may be stronger without the cropping I did..

I like what you did with it! I'm not sure whether I like your version or mine better-- the cropping you did balances out the positive/negative balance a little, but mine carries more weight for me because I'm biased towards my own work :)
