This is a composite of two photos. One taken in Christchurch, NZ and

the background in Wellington, NZ. The background looks surreal, but

that is exactly how it can be. I chose the title on whimsy - and later

thought that is seems also a take on "Sleepless in Seattle". How do

you think this works please ? Both of the images are fundamentally

untouched. I have left quite a bit of background to the left, but at

this stage, do not think that it is too much ??

Its interesting to see how the expression of the man interplays with the surreal background.  It is almost as though he has been transported to an entirely alien environment. The background doesn't appear surreal in appearance,  but rather in the proportions of the man and the backgrounds proximity to him.

I like the space to the left, and I think you could have had more if so desired.

On a last note, it could be compared to an image of the crucifixion albeit that his arms are not outstretched , it retains a mood of stoic sacrifice.

Very well done Jim, a most thought provoking presentation.

Best Regards

Many thanks for your insightful and well thought out comments.  You have convinced me to try having more area on the left which I did have available to me and it seems to work very well.  Additionally I have reduced the size of the main subject so that his head is below the mountain range.  Not sure that you actually recommend this, but nevertheless it works well. Judy is a fan of the new image, which I intend to post on the daily ratings forum.

"Stoic sacrifice", now you are getting almost as flowery in speech as me  ;-)

Take care !

Hi Pierre

Actually the quality of the montage did suffer a bit from ghosting around the man, however by circumstance, that was not why the image is small.  Rather it was me looking at the rules afresh and trying to meet the restrictions, by too much it seems.

I have since got rid of the ghosting and made other changes as in the posting directly above.  Hope you will see these changes and be able to comment further.

Hi Mehmet

I am very pleased you like it and am humbled by your comment.  Very nice to hear from you again !

Kind regards

Jim
