As a cloud bank is rolling in, you're standing on the rim looking down

into Haleakala Crater on the island of Maui. Once again, I'm having a

hard time maintaining contrast levels after posting the photograph. I

would like to know if you find this an appealing image.

I enjoy this one alot, its like a story from another planet.

Would like too see some warriors with horses approaching. Well I know that's though to do, but that's what I thought when I saw this one

Another beatiful shot in a great portfolio. The colors look great as is regardless of any digital fixes. All photos posted here suffer from being compressed so I think any correction you can make to get it to where it should be, is fine.

Wonderful shot. Of course, it helps to be in Hawaii!!!

I do not see many of these vistas in Connecticut.

I, too, took shots of the volcano...yours is a great picture...good contrast with the clouds and the swirls of the rocky area

Wow, what great terrain. Nice eye on the curving flow of rocks down the slope. I'm curious if you used an edge mask when you sharpened this? Some of the photo looks artificially sharp in relation to the rest of the photo, the crags on the left. Actually on second inspection, the center of the photo where there's not as much detail seems to have picked up some noise, I think you may have over sharpened it a bit. I'd probably crop a little of the sky out, but people always say that I place the horizon too high so that's probably just my personal preference. Great shot!

The red color is what draws my eye into this image. The details in the foreground are also great. Wonderful work!

Well, it would appear that my question was answered. I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone for visiting and leaving a comment and rating. There was one question about the altitude (from Ilya) of my vantage point. This photograph was taken at just around 10K feet (3048 meters). Another comment (from slide) about the noise. I agree, I oversharpened trying to compensate for the PhotoNet compression monster. This was a quick scan at 2400dpi as well, without the grain equalization management function. I just completed a new scan at 3200dpi with a bit more finesse. One last point. This image is actually one of a set of two. The other being the right hand side of the crater. It is a panorama which I hope to be able to stitch together someday. There never seems to be enough time to do everything that one would like to do. Regards to all.

Well , I think that nature gives us all what is necessary for forget PS ; a lucky day , the right place and good photo technique are enough.

Only a suggestion : I like to crop a few of sky ( a half ), the foreground will become more strenght
