I'm kinda torn on this one.  Interesting subject.  I'm guessing the darkness is intentional to maybe set a mood?  I think I'd like it a bit lighter, especially the eyes.  They're very dark, flat, and a bit lifeless.  Given the apparent youth and costume, I'd expect her full character would come through in a lighter, color image.

I have to go along with Charles. I have made portraits that are intentionally dark but this one looks underexposed. If it looks good on your monitor then you have the brightness set too high.

On the other hand, it is nicely composed and the light looks like it is used well. You have also captured her expression well.

Dear Charles Brennan & Mark Harris-
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. The darkness is intentional. Her eyes are not at all dull, Those are vibrant with life. @ Mark- My monitor brightness is 36%- not high in my opinion. I am attaching two edited version of this image, and one in colour. I would like to get your comments on those too. Thanks once again for sharing your opinion.
Regards.

Sonali, first let me say that I'm extremely biased in that I generally like bright portraits.  I think dark can work when you're trying to set a mood, but I'm not sure there's anything about this subject or enviornment that really lends itself to a dark mood.  She seems a happy young girl arrayed in a bright costume.  Please note again it's my personal bias.  I think this is a great shot, and I'm suggesting alternate, not necessarily better, adjustments.  I've attached yet another variation.  I upped the exposure about a stop, added some noise reduction then sharpening.  It brings out the color in the eyes. Again just a suggestion.

I do like the last one you posted. It still has a dark mood but better detail. You are correct, 36% is not necessarily too bright.
