taschin 0 Posted May 28, 2013 I took this picture in Hefei (a Chinese city 1,000 km south of Beijing). The old man with the cart was diagonally crossing an intersection between two major roads with many lanes. I was impressed by the calm and tranquility by which the old man walked, without worrying about the color of traffic lights and the cars that ran beside, behind and in front of him. Slowly he walked with his pace. An old man who lives his life quietly in the midst of people with a frenetic life. Maybe an example of life for all of us. Thanks for viewing. Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted May 29, 2013 Nice intoduction to this equally nice scene of a conflict of eras in real life. The exagerated dark vignette does a wonderful job of isolating this man and his cart in the middle of 21st century traffic.Good capture and excellent image...Bravo!Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
Jim_Dockery_Photos 2 Posted May 29, 2013 Thanks for the back story, looks like a pretty good shot, but the heavy vignette/darkening is over done for my taste. I'd prefer a much lighter dose and perhaps some blurring of the background. Link to comment
taschin 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi Laurent and Jim, thanks for your comments. The exaggerated vignette wanted to be a means to underline the gap between the two life styles as stressed by you Laurent, but maybe it's really too much strong as suggested by you Jim. Thank you again. Bye. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted July 25, 2014 I like the heavy vignetting, emphasizing the story of the man with his belongings and the story is as important part of the picture as is, for most of us. Value and life as we call it, with all the modern gadgetry, "modern life" is very relative question. To add something to the composition, I would include a little more of the street, intersection, to the right, to show the stories more clearly. IMHO. The toned down color is perfect with a little in the cart, packed belonging, the rest of the picture don't need more then B&W. It is a picture, you can look at it a long time and moving your mind, and your imagination. The vignetting can be improved, by more graduated feeding to the edges, not like as it is, with several dark line in-front of the person, in the bottom middle of the image and the strong band of dark line at the left of the image. The processing need more graduated work. Link to comment
